Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND)

Child with nursery school teacher

St. Mary’s Community Nursery School welcomes all children into our school regardless of ability.

All children are observed in their first few weeks in school. If your Key Worker has any concerns they will discuss them with you.

If you have any concerns about your child please discuss them with a member of staff before you child starts school. You can contact the school SENCO (the person who ensures that the school meets the needs of all) through the school office and make an appointment, or let us know at the pre-entry meeting.

Currently the school receives no funding for SEN as it is not part of the Single Formula Funding formula. If it is thought necessary to apply for ‘Early Access’ funding from the Local Authority to support a child’s needs then we may ask parents to attend an ‘Action for Inclusion’ meeting before (or as soon after) a child starts. This is a meeting to which all people offering support to the child or the family are invited to discuss the child’s needs and to help the school produce a plan to show how those needs will be met.
